New Feature: Calendar Feeds for Task Management

Calendar Feeds: Sync Your Tasks with Your Favorite Calendar App

We're excited to announce a highly requested feature that makes managing your tasks even more flexible: Calendar Feeds! You can now subscribe to your FreeTodoList due dates directly in your favorite calendar application.

Why Calendar Feeds?

While our existing RSS feeds are great for activity tracking, calendar feeds serve a different purpose. They help you:

  • See your task deadlines alongside your other calendar events
  • Get deadline reminders through your calendar app's notification system
  • Plan your days with a complete view of both appointments and tasks
  • Access your tasks from any device that supports your calendar

This integration creates a seamless experience between your task management and calendar scheduling, helping you stay organized without constantly switching between apps.

How It Works

Calendar feeds use the standard iCalendar format (ICS), which is compatible with virtually all calendar applications including Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, Microsoft Outlook, and more.

When you subscribe to a calendar feed:

  1. All tasks with due dates appear as events in your calendar
  2. Each calendar event includes the task description
  3. Tasks marked as complete show as completed events
  4. New due dates automatically appear in your calendar when you add them
  5. Changes to due dates automatically update in your calendar

The best part? It's all real-time and automatic — you don't need to manually sync or export anything!

How to Use Calendar Feeds

For Individual Lists

  1. Open any list in FreeTodoList
  2. Click the Actions dropdown in the top-right corner
  3. Select Calendar Feed
  4. Copy the feed URL
  5. Add the URL to your calendar app as a subscribed calendar

For All Your Lists at Once

  1. Go to the Feeds page from your dashboard (or click Feeds in the mobile navigation)

Privacy and Security

Just like our RSS feeds, calendar feeds are protected with unique tokens. This means only you (or those you share the link with) can access your task information. We never share your feed URLs publicly.

Perfect Companions to RSS Feeds

Our new calendar feeds complement our existing RSS feeds:

  • RSS feeds: Track all list activity (adding, completing, and modifying tasks)
  • Calendar feeds: Focus specifically on due dates for planning purposes

Together, they provide a complete external connection to your FreeTodoList data.

When to Use Which Feed Type

  • Use calendar feeds when: You want to see your tasks in your calendar app, get reminders for due dates, or plan your schedule around deadlines
  • Use RSS feeds when: You want to track all activity, keep a log of completed tasks, or integrate with automation tools
