Common questions
Is FreeTodoList really free?
Yes — completely, and permanently. There is no paid tier, no trial period, and no feature reserved for paying users. The site is funded by its author, with an optional Buy Me A Coffee link for anyone who wants to chip in.
Do I need an account to make a to do list?
No. Type a name into the box at the top of this page and you have a working list immediately — no email address, no password, no confirmation step. An account is optional and only adds cross-device sync and a dashboard.
Can I share a checklist with someone who hasn't signed up?
Yes. Every list has a shareable link that works for anyone, with no account needed on either end. You can share a read-only view, or share the list URL itself so other people can add and tick off items.
What happens to my lists if I don't create an account?
They're kept against your browser, so they'll be there when you come back on the same device. Clearing your browser data or switching devices will lose them — which is the one thing a free account fixes.
Can I use it on my phone?
Yes. The site works on any phone or tablet browser, and can be installed to your home screen so it opens like a normal app.
Can I connect it to ChatGPT or Claude?
Yes. FreeTodoList runs an MCP server, so any MCP-compatible assistant can add tasks, complete items, set due dates, and check what's overdue on your behalf. There's also a REST API and a command-line client.
Can I get my lists out again?
Any list can be exported as Markdown or plain text, printed, or subscribed to as an RSS or calendar feed. Nothing is locked in.
