Quick Task Reordering: Move Items to Top or Bottom Instantly

We're excited to announce a new productivity-boosting feature for FreeTodoList: Quick Task Reordering. This feature makes it even easier to prioritize and organize your todo items with just a single click.

What's New

Our new quick reordering buttons allow you to:

  • Move to Top: Instantly promote any task to the #1 position in your list
  • Move to Bottom: Quickly demote or defer tasks to the end of your list
  • Visual Hover Controls: Buttons appear when you hover over an item, keeping the interface clean
  • Works With Sorting: Complementary to our existing sort options and drag-and-drop functionality

Why We Added This Feature

While our drag-and-drop reordering is great for organizing your lists, we noticed that two specific actions were particularly common:

  1. Promoting a task to the very top of a list when it becomes a priority
  2. Moving completed or lower-priority tasks to the bottom of a list

Previously, these actions required dragging items across potentially long lists. Now, a single click does the job instantly, saving you time and effort.

How to Use Quick Reordering

  1. Hover over any todo item in your list
  2. Look for the quick action buttons that appear:
    • Click the double up arrow (↟) to move the item to the top position
    • Click the double down arrow (↡) to move the item to the bottom position
  3. The list refreshes automatically, showing your item in its new position

These actions maintain the relative order of all other items in your list, simply shifting your selected item to the first or last position.

Perfect Companions

This feature works great with:

  • Sorting Options: Apply your preferred sorting after quick reordering
  • Drag & Drop: Use quick actions for big moves, drag and drop for fine-tuning
  • Archive Completed: Move completed items to the bottom, then archive them all at once

Coming Soon

We're continuously improving FreeTodoList based on your feedback. Some features we're exploring next:

  • Keyboard shortcuts for list navigation and management
  • Grouping items by categories or tags
  • Batch operations for multiple selected items

Your Feedback Matters

We built this feature based on your requests! Let us know what you think and what other organization tools would help you stay productive.

Happy organizing!
