New Feature: Calendar View for Visual Task Planning

Calendar View: Visualize Your Tasks in a Monthly Layout

We're excited to introduce one of our most requested features: a full Calendar View for your tasks! This powerful new visualization tool makes it easier than ever to plan your month, identify busy periods, and ensure no deadlines are missed.

Why a Calendar View?

While lists are fantastic for organizing discrete tasks, a calendar provides critical context that lists can't offer:

  • Visualize task distribution across days and weeks
  • Spot busy days at a glance with color-coded task indicators
  • Plan ahead by seeing your complete task schedule in a familiar monthly format
  • Identify gaps where you can schedule additional work
  • Complement our calendar feeds with an in-app planning tool

Our calendar view bridges the gap between list-based task management and time-based planning, giving you the best of both worlds.

How It Works

The new calendar view organizes all your tasks with due dates in a familiar monthly calendar grid:

  1. Color-coded status indicators:

    • Green: Completed tasks
    • Yellow: Tasks due today
    • Red: Overdue tasks
    • Blue: Upcoming tasks
  2. Comprehensive information for each task:

    • Time of day (for scheduling precision)
    • Task description
    • Which list the task belongs to
  3. Easy navigation:

    • Click any task to go directly to its list
    • Navigate between months with previous/next buttons
    • Today's date is highlighted for easy reference

Key Benefits

1. Better Time Distribution

See if your tasks are clustered on certain days, allowing you to redistribute work for more balanced productivity.

2. Visual Deadline Tracking

Rather than scanning lists for upcoming deadlines, see them visually mapped to specific days.

3. Contextual Planning

Plan new tasks with awareness of your existing commitments and deadlines.

4. Multi-List Perspective

View tasks from all your lists in a single, unified calendar—perfect for high-level planning.

5. Complementary to List View

The calendar doesn't replace your lists—it complements them by showing the same information in a different format optimized for time-based planning.

How to Access the Calendar View

The calendar view is available now to all FreeTodoList users:

  1. Click the Calendar link in the main navigation menu
  2. Browse through months using the navigation arrows
  3. Click on any task to go directly to its parent list

For mobile users, you'll find the Calendar icon in both the bottom navigation bar and the More menu.

Perfect Companion to Calendar Feeds

The new calendar view works perfectly alongside our recently launched calendar feeds. Use the in-app calendar for planning and the calendar feeds to sync with your external calendar apps.

When to Use Which View

  • Use list view when: You're focusing on a specific project, checking off tasks sequentially, or need to see all tasks including those without due dates
  • Use calendar view when: You're planning your week or month, need to balance workloads across days, or want to see all your deadlines in context
  • Use calendar feeds when: You need your tasks to appear in external calendar applications
